KABUL (Pajhwok): The Election Oversight Network (EON) on Monday said postponement of the announcement of preliminary result of presidential election would raise doubts on the credibility of the process.
The presidential election was held on September 28 and its primary result said to be announced on 19th of this month and the final result on 7th of November but the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has said the preliminary result would be revealed on November14.
Abdullah Ahmadi, EON head, talking to a press conference here, expressed concern over delay in the election result announcement and said the issue could raise doubts and questions on the credibility of the poll.
He termed the postponement as poor management and said: “The result should be announced without any political pressure and the IEC should provide clarification about the reasons behind delaying the result.”
Habibullah Shinwari, another member of the network, said delay in the election result was an act against the Electoral Law.
He said the election commissions were not cooperating with the election oversight institutes and did not share needed information with them.
Earlier, Hawa Alam Nuristani, the IEC head, at a press conference apologized to the Afghan people for failing to announce the preliminary results on schedule.
She said one of the reasons for delaying the announcement of preliminary results was to ensure transparency.
