MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Some women journalists on Thursday said they were yet to be recognised in the field, despite their all-out efforts to serve their society.
They expressed the views at a workshop arranged by the Journalist Rescue Committee in Mazar-i-Sharif -- the capital of northern Balkh province.
Around 30 women journalists from Balkh attended the event, Ilyas Alami, the Journalist Rescue Committee head, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said most journalists -- both men and women – lacked professionalism and that was why they were repeatedly threatened. Security was a problem facing journalists, but the real problem was their unprofessionalism, he explained.
He said the workshop was part of the committee’s efforts to train journalists on how to deal with difficulties in the conflict zone and protect themselves under undesired circumstances.
Hadiya Armaghan, who has been working as a journalist in Mazar-i-Sharif over the past several years, identified insecurity as the main problem facing them.
She said another problem was that most people still did not accept female journalists in society and as a result, they faced many hardships.
“Still people in Mazar-i-Sharif and other parts of the country don’t think women can work as journalists,” she said, complaining some media outlets ignored the competence of female journalists.
