KABUL (Pajhwok): The US has supported the decision of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on counting only biometric votes.
US Ambassador John Bass, who visited the IEC head office, tweeted: “Impressed with the hard work of the national tally centre to honor the sacrifices and votes of the Afghan people.
“Patience and transparency are the priorities right now in order to receive reliable results in the Afghan elections,” he wrote
He supported the diligent efforts of Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) and IEC. To protect the integrity of the vote, he backed the IEC decision to count only biometrically verified ballots.
The diplomat wrote.
He hoped IEC, to strengthen transparency and counter misinformation, would release the numbers and locations of polling centres that remained closed on election day.
