MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The High Office of Oversight and Anti-corruption (HOOAC) head on Monday said graft could be eliminated only when there was coordination between prosecutors and law-enforcement agencies.
Azizullah Ludin told a press conference in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, the campaign against administrative corruption could not succeed until relevant laws were implemented.
One major impediment to the anti-corruption drive had been non-execution of laws, he said, adding overcoming the menace in Afghanistan was no easy task.
“There are several ministers, governors, directors and jihadi leaders who had nothing in the past, but today they possess billions of dollars,” Ludin said.
He continued other nations helped their government eliminate corruption, but the Afghans did not cooperate in this regard, something that impedes the success of the anti-graft drive.
Ludin said despite problems, his organisation had been able to refer 190 cases of corruption against individuals, including ministers and governors, to the Attorney General Office.
