KABUL (Pajhwok): Holding its first election campaign gathering in Kabul, the Stability and Convergence team led by CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday vowed to bring about lasting peace besides rooting out corruption in the country.
Presidential election campaigns began across the country on Sunday (today) and will last two months.

 

About 18 candidates, including President Ashraf Ghani and his Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, are in the run for September 28 ballot.
The "Stability and Convergence Team" held its first election campaign gathering in Kabul and about 3,000 people took part in the event.
Presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said: “Tens of thousands of civilians suffered causalities during the 40-year-old proxy war in the country, therefore the first priority of the people is peace and we would bring lasting peace if our team wins the election.”
He said they would pursue peace with faith and members of his team would strive to ensure peace by any means possible but not at the cost of people’s rights.
He called on the international community to support the next presidential government.
Abdullah has chosen Enayatullah Babar Farhmand as his first and Asadullah Saadati as his second vice-presidential hopefuls.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan Wahdat party head Mohammad Karim Khalili and a member of the Stability and Convergence team’s leadership, also spoke on the occasion and said aim of their team was restore people trust in the Presidential Palace.
