KABUL (Pajhwok): Protesting Wolesi Jirga candidates from Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan and Kunduz provinces on Sunday warned they would not allow the presidential election in their areas if their demands were not met.
More than 20 Wolesi Jirga candidates from the four northern and northeastern provinces shared their complaints with media persons at a press conference in Kabul.
They called for verification of biometric and non-biometric votes cast in the Oct polls, otherwise they would not let the upcoming presidential poll to be conducted in their zone.
Shukria Paikan, a protesting Wolesi Jirga candidate, said widespread rigging and fraud took place in the Wolesi Jirga elections in northern Kunduz province.
She said: “The right of Kunduz people has been betrayed and deals were made on their votes”.
She urged the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to meet their legitimate demands, otherwise it would have bad consequences.
In a joint resolution, they demanded the acceptance of only biometrically verified votes cast in the Oct polls in their provinces and invalidation of all those votes cast by under aged people.
They asked the election commission to re-conduct the Wolesi Jirga elections simultaneously with the presidential election in the north zone.
