KABUL (Pajhwok): Some provincial officials of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) accused of fraud and rigging in the last parliamentary polls would be dismissed and treated as per the law, a well-placed source said on Monday.
The source within the IEC, wishing anonymity, said evaluations conducted by the IEC showed some provincial heads of the commission were being held accountable for failing to discharge their responsibilities properly.
The source did not explain how many provincial IEC heads are being dismissed and investigated, but said provincial IEC chiefs who performed well and worked effectively would be appreciated.
The official said work on preliminary elections results of Paktia, Kabul and Baghlan provinces was underway and would be announced in four days.
The Wolesi Jirga elections were conducted on October 20 in 32 provinces of the country.
