KABUL (Pajhwok): Meshrano Jirga or upper house of parliament on Tuesday asked Germany to revise its plan to start deporting Afghan refugees.
Earlier, German media reported that Afghan refugees whose asylum seeking applications have been rejected would be sent back home.
Angela Merkel's government hopes to discourage thousands of Afghans who may be on their way to Europe, the German media says.
The Afghan Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation, meanwhile, said the German government was yet to brief the Afghan government over its decision.
Nisar Haris, Meshrano Jirga member, told Tuesday’s general session: “Angela Merkel shouldn’t have given false hopes. They should’ve closed their borders like other European countries. People reached Europe with so many difficulties even at the cost of losing family members, now they are just being deported.”
He said Germany’s decision was injustice to Afghans who escaped from Afghanistan due to poverty, unemployment, lack of security and justice. Haris urged the German government and parliament to reconsider the decision regarding deportation of Afghan refugees.
Lailuma Ahmadi, another member of the senate, said: “Afghans reached Europe with a lot of difficulties, endangering their lives. If expelled, it would be injustice to them.”
She said the Afghans had left their country due to challenges and they shouldn’t be expelled.
Other senators also demanded Germany revise its decision, asking the Afghan Foreign Ministry to start discussions with the German government in this regard.
Mohammad Alam Ezedyar, first deputy chairman, said: “First, the Afghans shouldn’t have left their country. Now when they have reached Germany with a lot of difficulties, they shouldn’t be expelled.”
Ezedyar tasked the international relations committee and the house’s secretariat to dispatch official letter to German Embassy in Kabul and German’s parliament to review the decision.
Earlier, the Afghan refugee and repatriation minister had said they had held talks with European governments not to deport Afghans who lived in insecure parts of the country, patients who could not be treated in Afghanistan and families without breadwinners.
“Ambiguities in agreements with European countries and Australia have resulted in violation of the accords by these countries.”
