KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga on Wednesday accused Pakistan of clear intervention in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and decided to summon the foreign minister and the national security advisor over non-implementation of a bilateral security agreement with the United States.
Mohammad Osman Farahi, a lawmaker from western Farah province, addressing the general session, accused Pakistan’s intelligence agency of meddling in Afghanistan’s affairs. “There is plenty of evidence in the whole world about Pakistan’s support for terrorism.”
He accused the Afghan government officials of being indifferent towards Pakistan’s meddling. “Unless and until Pakistan is not prevented from meddling in Afghanistan, security would not be ensured in the country,” he said.
Arif Rahmani from Ghazni was of the same opinion, saying: “Pakistan has always declared summer as the fighting season and winter as the season of negotiations. We shouldn’t be deceived by them anymore.”
He said whenever the insurgents faced defeat; Pakistani politicians raised the voice of peace. When the unity government was first formed, Afghan leaders welcomed Pakistan’s call for peace, but it did not yield any result except further insecurity and killing of innocent lives, he said.
He said the US should prevent Pakistan’s interventions in the country under the bilateral security agreement (BSA) it had signed with Afghanistan.
He, along with other lawmakers, called for summoning the national security advisor and the foreign minister over the non-implementation of the security deal with the US.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi also blasted Pakistan’s intervention in Afghanistan. “Pakistan’s intervention is clearly visible. Hiding Mullah Omar’s death, appointing Mullah Akhtar Mansour as his successor and the presence of Pakistani military personnel on the frontline against Afghan security forces are instances nobody can deny.”
“The government signed a security agreement with the US based on the necessity to defend Afghanistan in times of need and interventions from other countries. Unfortunately we see no practical step from the US,” he continued.
Bowing to demands from lawmakers, Ibrahimi said Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar would be summoned to one of the upcoming general sessions in this regard.
