PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The governor of central Logar province on Sunday said 35 percent of government institutions had no proper buildings because powerful land mafia had grabbed thousands of acres of state land.
Mohammad Halim Fidaee told reporters that 1,660 individuals, including included government officials, powerful figures, local influential, officials and common people were involved in the land grabbing for years in Logar.
There was no land spared for the construction of government buildings, he said, adding that even the land and revenue department had no proper building.
Fidaee said he would expose the names of those involved in the land grabbing through media if allowed by the court.
He pledged to form a commission to investigate the issue and introduce the individuals involved in the dirty game to judicial organs.
Abdul Ahad Khan, director land and revenue department, confirmed that huge part of land had been grabbed by powerful individual and government officials.
He said provincial government officials did not have the authority to disclose the names of land grabbers; however, official concerned had been informed about the issue.
Syed Qaribullah Sadaat, the provincial council head, said thousands of acres of land had been grabbed in the province and it was due to the ignorance of provincial authorities and growing corruption.
He urged the government help vacate the land from powerful individuals and officials.
