Journalists concerned at poll coverage

KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Dozens of journalists in northern Kunduz province have voiced their concern over lack of cooperation from officials in the coverage of upcoming presidential and provincial council elections.
Reporters from Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces gathered in Kunduz City, the provincial capital, on Thursday afternoon to discuss their problems and find a solution them.
In the past Persian year, 15 cases of threats from different groups were registered but none of them has been investigated so far, complained the chairman of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee in the northeastern zone, Rahmatullah Hamnawa.
“In the past election when I entered a voting site for women, I was forced out of the polling station by the Independent Election Commission,” said journalist, Zabihullah Majidi.
Lack of a proper strategy for reporters and the shortage of experienced journalists are the main challenges facing the community.
Another journalist, Diyan Ahmadi, asked local officials to reduce pressures on journalists for the sake of better and more objective coverage of important events, including elections.
