250 kg of drugs seized from militants’ house

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Police in northwestern Jawzjan province recovered 250 kilograms of opium from the residence of an individual with links to Taliban, an official said on Wednesday.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the illicit substance was concealed in plastic bags in the house of Mohammad Nabi.
Nabi said: “The opium were transferred to my house by Maulvi Syed Mohammad, a Taliban commander in Dasht-i-Laili, and said to keep drug in the house until his last order.”
Jawzjani said the next target of seized opium was not known but said that Taliban usually smuggled drugs to fuel militancy.
According to police, 30 suspected smugglers had been arrested with hundreds of kilograms of drugs and smuggled vehicles in the province.
Halima Sadaf, the provincial council member, praised the performance f security officials in controlling the trafficking of drugs.
She said antinarcotics officials foiled multiple attempts of smuggling in Jawzjan.
