New governor links economic growth to security

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): The newly appointed governor for western Farah province alleged that his predecessors were not honest to develop the province and he promised to implement his economic and security plans for the prosperity of the masses.
Mohammad Asif Nang, former acting minister for education, has been appointed new governor for Farah province.
In his exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Nang said Farah was a developed and strategically important region of Afghanistan.
But he regretted that the province had been left undeveloped and former governors did not work honestly to ensure prosperity by introducing economic reforms in the province.
“I got through information about Farah and found that former governors only wasted their time. My predessors did not work to usher an era of progress and prosperity in Farah, which shocked me,” Nang said without naming of the former governors.
He said properly utilize his time to introduce reforms and plans for the progress, economic prosperity and development of the province.
People fight against government and grow poppy in Farah due to poverty and joblessness, a problem that could be easily tackled if the government generates job opportunities by implementing development projects, Nang observed.
“Installing wind power turbines and solar panels and importing electricity from neighboring Iran will help resolve shortage of electricity in Farah, which are my main targets,” he pledged.
