Gen. Allen promises aid to Ghazni

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander has promised stability and reconstruction programmes in southern Ghazni province. During a closed-door meeting with Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada late on Monday, Gen. John Allen was updated on efforts at improving security and implementing reconstruction schemes in the province. Akbarzada said conferred in detail with the ISAF commander on security and development projects. Gen. Allen was more hopeful about security and reconstruction of Ghazni than his successor Gen. David Petraeus, according to the governor. Allen also visited US and Polish troops deployed to the province, the governor said, adding Ghazni needed more reconstruction assistance. The US would assist the province, which has been declared as the centre of Islamic culture and civilisation, with paving roads, Gen. Allen promised. American and Polish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) has funded a 30-kilometre road in Ghazni City, the provincial capital.
