Trust vote: MPs urged to protect national interest

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of southeastern Khost province on Sunday urged the Wolesi Jirga to grant ministers-designate the vote of confidence on merit and in the supreme national interest.
Eid Gul Tarizwal, a resident of Khost City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News lawmakers should avoid entering secret deals with the cabinet nominees.
He claimed the ministers-designate had started campaigning to secure the trust vote, advising lower house members to prefer the country’s interest over personal gains.
A resident of the Ismailkhel district, Halim Mandozai, said some of the cabinet choices lacked requisite experience.
Munawar Khan, a graduate of Sheikh Zayed University, called on Wolesi Jirga members to avoid bowing to pressure from any quarters while granting the trust vote.
He feared neighboring countries could lobby to get their favourite candidates approved in order to promote their interests in Afghanistan.
“The public representatives should investigate the past of each cabinet pick and make sure that each of them is a patriot and loyal to Afghanistan’s interests,” he suggested.
President Ashraf Ghani had promised a Wolesi Jirga delegation that ministers-designate would be introduced for a vote of confidence on Tuesday.
