KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Students and youth from the Gurbaz district of southeastern Khost province on Wednesday urged the government to intensify efforts for peace in the country.

“We students make future of Afghanistan. For a bright future and a developed Afghanistan, peace and stability should be strengthened today,” he said.

Mohammad Akbar Zadran, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the gathering for peace was arranged jointly by the government and groups representing the youth.

He said the event was aimed at sending out a message to the international community to intensify efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

“We had similar events in the past and they had positive outcome and now we have started holding such gatherings once again,” the official said.

Tribal elders, who attended the event, urged the government to advance its peaces process with the rebels.

Tribal elder Haji Gul Ahmad Khan believed if the government gave positive answer to people’s demands, it would help push forward the peace effort.

He suggested the government should sit with the Taliban and point out weaknesses on both the sides and find solution to them.
