NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of central Daikundi province on Tuesday urged new provincial council members to do all they could to ensure good governance and share their expertise with local authorities.
The former provincial council was compromised of nine members, including two women. As many individuals, including three women, have won the April elections.
Daikundi residents alleged most of remote villages were not paid due attention by the outgoing council. They want the new public representatives to monitor aid distribution and focus on education and job opportunities.
A young man from Khadi district, Mohammad Sarwar, said: “We want the new PC members to construct new schools and provide us job opportunities, so we don’t have to go to foreign countries for work.”
He told Pajhwok Afghan News people would not go to Pakistan and Iran or join militants if job opportunities were made available to them.
A woman from Neili, the provincial capital, said the outgoing PC members enjoyed powers that their successors would not have. Zahra asked the public representatives to do more for the people.
A newly elected member, Samia Mohammadi, promised she would work honestly for people’s welfare because they had voted for her. “A reduction in our authority doesn’t mean the weakening of our performance. We would do our best for improving people’s living standards.”
Her colleague Ghairat Jawahiri said the performance of the previous council had been good but the problem was lack of coordination among council members. “The outgoing council has made achievements that we should not ignore.”
