New PC members take oath, vow to fight graft

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The newly-elected provincial council members on Saturday took oath in central Maidan Wardak province, vowing to fight corruption and prevent civilian casualties, an official said.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that acting governor Abdul Majid Khogyani attended the swearing-in ceremony held in Maidan Sharh, the provincial capital.

After taking oath, one of the new provincial council members, Eng. Hasibullah Kalimzai, said they would work hard to protect civilians from suffering casualties during violence by sharing their plans with the warring parties.

He added they would also make efforts at eliminating corruption in the provincial government offices. “Government officers who provide evidence of corruption in their respective departments will be given up to a million afghanis in reward,” Kalimzai said.

Former deputy provincial council head Haji Mohammad Hazrat Janan shared information about achievements the previous council had made during its tenure and thanked the provincial administration for supporting them.

Governor Khogyani also congratulated the new members on their election and asked them to cooperate with the provincial government in streamlining its affairs.
