KABUL (Pajhwok): Outgoing Afghan leader President Hamid Karzai on Monday expressed his pleasure over the peaceful democratic transfer of power to his successor Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.
He administered oath of office to Ahmadzai, a former World Bank executive, formally ending his 13-year rule that saw Afghanistan taking a start from the scratch.
While welcoming foreign dignitaries, he said: “I’m proud of transferring power to a new president in a peaceful manner. I’m optimistic of Afghanistan’s future.”
Karzai thanked the international community for its generous assistance to the war-torn country, linking Afghanistan’s progress to its support. He believed state institutions would be further strengthened, pledging all-out cooperation with the new government.
