IECC restores validity of one ballot box

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Saturday declared validated votes of one of 94 ballot boxes, an official said.

Earlier, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) had declared the 94 ballot boxes invalid. IECC later started probing complaints regarding the ballot boxes.

IECC spokesman Nadir Mohseni told reporters 21 complaints had been registered on behalf of the Change and Continuity team, led by Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

Khalid Orya, an official of IECC, said not a single ballot had been invalidated without a good legal reason. He defended each decision of the commission.

IECC chief Abdul Sattar Sadat said they had never executed orders in violation of rules and regulation. Signatures on 371 of 590 votes in the ballot box were found similar, he said, asking why all 590 votes should be scrapped.
