Samangan pins hopes on new president

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Residents of northern Samangan province have urged the new president to act in accordance with the teachings of the holy Quran and work hard to eliminate administrative graft, ensure security and encourage foreign aid.
The first round of presidential election was held on April 5 and the runoff on June 14, but the process is yet to be decided, causing people numerous economic and security problems. 
Residents say the new president should tackle problems facing common people and put the country on the path to development and prosperity.  
Qazi Jamaluddin, a resident of Pana Chob village of Khuram Sarbagh district, said: “The new president should eliminate militancy and administrative corruption first.”
The 52-year-old believed meritocracy within government departments and more attention to the education sector was the only way to rescue Afghanistan from current crises. “The new leader should strive to lure foreign aid and facilitate employment.”
A farmer in Abkhorak village of Ruyi Du Ab district said the new government must work to strengthen the economy and speed up rehabilitation efforts.
A civil society activist and resident of Dara-i-Sauf Bala district, said: “We hope the new leader will be an honest person who keeps supreme the interests of the people and our war-torn country.”
