National Unity Front demands interim govt

KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Unity Front, opposing foreign military bases in Afghanistan, on Monday slammed efforts for forming a government of national as a conspiracy to install a weak administration.
The second round of the presidential polls ran into a deadlock after Abdullah alleged massive fraud and boycotted the election commissions. But the month-long impasse was resolved by US Secretary of State John Kerry’s mediation.
As a result of hectic diplomatic efforts by the US and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the candidates agreed on a full audit of votes and forming a national unity government.
Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai, the National Unity Front chief, told journalists the country had been struggling with an acute electoral crisis over the past six months, a situation that undermined the economy.
He said neither economic development would be possible nor people’s mandate would protect the county as long as lasting security was not ensured across the country.
Ahmadzai added they earlier warned the ongoing situation was not favourable for holding polls and that elections in such a situation would plunge the country into turmoil.
The Front also issued a resolution, saying: “As the process remains deadlocked, the US wants to impose a government of its choice on Afghanistan, but we believe the result will not save the country...”
It described the agreement on formation of an interim government and accelerating peace efforts the only way to settle the problem.
Ahmadzai also denounced the genocide of innocent Palestinians at the hands of Israel, calling the act a crime against humanity. He urged the international community to stem the massacre.
