IEC staffers detained on rigging charges

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Police have detained five Independent Election Commission (IEC) workers on charges of committing fraud during last week’s presidential runoff in northern Kunduz province.
The men were detained in Aliabad and Khanabad districts. One of the detainees possessed ballot papers marked in favour of a presidential runner in Khanabad, police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The detainee had been introduced to the judiciary, he said, adding the four others held in Aliabad district were accused of using fake voter cards and other fraudulent activities.
He said police were duty-bound to ensure security for the election and the force would stay neutral until final results were made public.
IEC official in Kunduz Hamidullah Baloch confirmed the arrest of their five employees on charges of fraud.
