LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) director in southern Helmand province alleged the police chief for Greshk district was involved in massive rigging for Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
Qudratullah Naqshbandi accused Lt. Hikmatullah Haqmal of bringing voters in vehicles and directing them to cast their ballots for Abdullah. He snatched ballot papers without inking their fingers, Naqshbandi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Without giving further details, the director claimed a number of women were found involved in fraud.
IEC Spokesman Shafiqullah Safi said Haqmal was involved in fraud with the connivance of his father Malim Mir Wali, a member of the lower house.
Provincial police spokesman Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan confirmed receiving complaints against the Greshk police chief. He said police had been directed to stop the practice forthwith.
