KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): On Election Day, five children were killed and 17 others, including women, wounded when insurgents fired a barrage of rockets into the Alisher district of southeastern Khost province, locals said.
Haji Turab Khan, a local elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News two rockets landed inside a home in the Babrak Tani area on the outskirts of the district. Several people were killed and wounded in the first attack.
When people rushed to the site, another rocket was fired, causing more casualties. Some of the injured were taken to Pakistan for treatment while the slightly wounded were transferred to a local hospital.
The elder said polling stations were far from the area which came under rocket attack.
Dr. Hidayatullah Hamidi, the Khost Civil Hospital director, confirmed receiving 12 injured people, who were in stable condition.
Mubarez Ahmad Zadran, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the incident but he had no details. He said it was the handiwork of Taliban but the militants are yet to comment on the strike.
