Jawzjan militants tear passengers’ voter, ID cards

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Militants tore voter cards and Identity Cards (ID) of passengers on Shiberghan-Darzab highway in northwestern Jawzjan province, locals said on Monday.
But Zabihullah Zahid, district administrative chief, denied locals’ claim and said that no one had registered complain in this regard. Security forces, he said could deal with the situation because they had several check posts on the highway.
He acknowledged militants have presence in the district but rebels had no greater influence in the district.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said militants were ordered to tear passengers’ voter cards and their ID cards.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani assured security forces would ensure tight security on Election Day. People could cast their vote in 119 polling stations, he said, adding only eight polling stations would stay closed because of security concerns.
