KABUL (Pajhwok): Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, failed presidential candidate in April 5 election, announced support to presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in runoff poll scheduled to be held on June 14, officials said on Tuesday.
Addressing a gathering in Kabul, Sayyaf’s team managers formally announced support to Abdullah in the second round of ballot.
Though Sayyaf was not present at the gathering but a statement was read out on his behalf announcing his backing in favour of Abdullah.
Quoting Sayyaf, the statement said: “After series of meetings with both the electoral teams, I decided to back Abdullah’s team.”
In the first round of election, Sayyaf secured a total of 7.1 percent votes and stood fourth among eight presidential hopefuls.
