IEC sacks 57 observers in Farah

 
FARAH CIY (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) sacked 57 observers in western Farah province after they were found involved in rigging during the April 5 ballot, an official said on Monday.
IEC Director Mirwais Azizi told Pajhwok Afghan News around 12 observers had been sacked in Farah City, 18 in Purchaman district, four in Pusht Road, three in Khak-i-Safaid, two in Shibkoh, three in Jowyin, five in Pushtkoh, seven in Bala Baluk and one each in Anardara, Gulistan and Bakwa districts.
He said soon after their removal, 57 new employees had been appointed to fill the vacant posts.
He said due to massive fraud in April 5 ballot all presidential votes in Purchaman district were declared null and void and the votes of eight polling stations were also declared invalidated during the preliminary results of provincial council elections.
The Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) said around 3,000 complaints from provincial council candidates had been received so far.
The runoff polls are scheduled to take place on June 14.
