JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unsuccessful Provincial Council (PC) candidates staged a protest against the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday.
A large number of failed runners and their supporters chanted slogans against the IEC chief and others officials for their failure to prevent what they called widespread fraud in the April 5 ballot.
The protesters added IEC officials had connived at rigging the ballot in favour of powerful candidates. Nafas Gul Malikzai, one of the protestors, said preliminary results were unacceptable to them as there were massive irregularities.
She alleged powerful candidates had been declared winners amid open rigging and fraud. A dozen successful candidates are the relatives of top government officials, according to her.
