KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has issued a decree summoning into session the Wolesi Jirga, Lower House of Parliament, tomorrow to vet and vote on a new list of his cabinet nominees.

KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission (IEC) Thursday announced the schedule for parliamentary elections, saying voting would take place on May 22.

WASHINGTON (PAN): The rejection of most cabinet nominees by the Wolesi Jirga, a temporary setback to President Hamid Karzai, is a good for democracy in Afghanistan, the countrys top diplomat to the United States has said.

KABUL (PAN): The Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) Tuesday rose for its winter recess, with the speaker saying that lawmakers would convene again the day remaining cabinet nominees were introduced to them for approval.

KABUL (PAN): Two ministers-designate, recently rejected by the Wolesi Jirga, say the parliamentarians' decision against them amounts to injustice. But legislators stoutly defend their stance.

KABUL (PAN): A number of people in this central capital believe injustice was done to some ministers-designate by rejecting them during the Saturday voting process by the Wolesi Jirga although they say there may be involvement of national interests.

KABUL (PAN): Some political analysts believe the rejection of majority of men nominated as cabinet members is a trick of the president, but others see the move as reflective of the Wolesi Jirga's increasing assertion of its authority.

KABUL (PAN): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Monday called for reforming the Independent Election Commission (IEC) before the parliamentary vote due in May this year.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has directed the Wolesi Jirga, or Lower House of Parliament, to suspend its winter recess until the completion of voting on his new cabinet picks.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai was concerned at the rejection of his 17 cabinet picks by the Wolesi Jirga, or Lower House of Parliament, his spokesman said on Sunday.
