KABUL (Pajhwok): Senate chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar on Sunday asked the government to resume and accelerate the stalled peace process.
Addressing a ceremony marking the fourth death anniversary of former president and chairman of the High Peace Council, Burhanuddin Rabbani, in Kabul Muslimyar said the young generation was fighting in different parts of the country, but the government was paying no attention to them.
Rabbani was assassinated on September 20, 2011 at his residence in Wazir Akbar Khan along with three members of the peace panel by a suicide bomber posing as a Taliban messenger. He remained president from 1992 to 1996.
“The country can only be built by the youth, but thousands of them have been killed in the country. I once again call on the brothers who are misled by foreign spy agencies to join the peace process,” the Meshrano Jirga or upper house of parliament chairman said.
He asked the government to accelerate the peace parleys because all Afghans should be united to steer the country out of the current crises.
Second Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hajji Mohammad Muhaqqiq said the armed opposition (insurgents) wanted to talk with some mujahideen leaders, but they were not honest and the people should not be deceived by their talks offer.
About Daesh or the self-styled Islamic State group, Muhaqqiq said the Afghans had always fought invaders and were ready to stand again the terrorist group as well.
“As we defeated the super power that wanted to control the region up to Indian Ocean, we will also fight again those who want to find illegal access to energy resources in central Asia,” he said.
