KABUL (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirga chairman and some members on Sunday blasted government’s policies towards Pakistan and asked the President Ashraf Ghani administration to sever political and economic ties with the neighboring country.
They said the conflict and insurgent attacks had risen recently, blaming Pakistan for the uptick in violence.
Senator Nader Baloch from Nimroz province said: “For how long should we stay quiet? A stern decision should be taken against Pakistan’s interference.”
He said the Afghan government should move the UN Security Council to prevent Pakistan from meddling in Afghan affairs.
Baloch asked the unity government leaders to sever economic and political ties with Pakistan. He said until Pakistan did not come under international community pressure, Islamabad would not stop interferences.
Dr. Sami Faisal from northern Baghlan said the government had adopted an appeasement policy towards Pakistan and was ignoring the advice of the people’s representatives.
“The unity government opened its arms once again to Pakistan, but got stabbed in the back,” he added.
The announcement of Mullah Omar’s death threw the nascent peace talks into jeopardy and the Taliban staged a wave of bloody attacks in Kabul to show they were unaffected by the demise of their supremo.
However, Afghanistan blamed the attacks on Pakistan which resumed rocket attacks on Afghan border districts amid reports the Pakistan military has started building new installations along the Durand Line.
Faisal said the last two months saw the situation in Afghanistan turning from bad to worse as a result of Pakistan’s interference in different parts of the country.
“If we don’t have atom bomb, we have high ambitions. Severing political and economic ties with Pakistan could serve a big blow to that country.”
He urged the lower house or Wolesi Jirga administrative board to lodge complaints against Pakistan with the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and other nations.
Senate chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar said: “We have always said that Pakistan is interfering in Afghanistan’s matters and is playing a double game, but nobody paid attention.”
He also insisted on cutting ties with Pakistan and said: “we call on the government to reconsider its policies towards Pakistan.”
