UN to implement first Urban Peace project in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): The United Nations Human Settlement Program is implementing its first Urban Peace project consists of capacity building and development projects in central Bamyan province, an official said Thursday.
The contract of the three years project was signed between Bamyan governor and the UN-Habitat today.
Bamyan Governor Mohammad Tahir Zuhair said choosing Bamyan as the first province for implementing the Urban Peace project was because of its improved security and stability.
He welcomed the project’s implementation and said that peace was not only meant to resolve dispute between two enemies, but it was also meant to tackle conflicts among society.
Bamyan mayor Khadim Hussain Fitrat said the project worth of $400,000 for promoting development councils would be under the supervision of governor’s house, municipality and the UN-Habitat.
Fitrat told Pajhwok Afghan News the program would focus on five development councils in capacity building, conducting of development plans of councils and implementing of the projects identified by people.
Sayed Mubariz Hussaini the UN-Habitat director in Bamyan said the Urban Peace project would be implemented in eight provinces and Bamyan was one of them where the project was conducted first.
