FARAH (Pajhwok): Hundreds of tribal elders, religious scholars and civil society activists held a gathering in western Farah province, voicing their support for the new government.
The gathering that took place at the Governor’s House on Tuesday urged the new leadership to ensure the supremacy of law, sustainable peace and strengthen reconstruction efforts.
“The new government has good plans and is determined to ensuring the supremacy of law and ending injustices,” acting governor Mohammad Omer Sherzad told the gathering.
He said the Afghans should support President Ashraf Ghani in implementing his plans. The governor complained Farah had been neglected during the past decade, but they expected the new government to give special attention to the province. “We need electricity and rehabilitation of different sectors.”
Besides electricity, the acting governor said a 78-kilometer road that links Farah with Iran and the Bakhsh Abad Dam were another important projects needed special attention.
National Solidarity party member Ahmed Qila Kahi said they extended complete support to the new government of Ahmadzai.
He said the Kabul Bank case reopening was appreciable to bring the corrupt to justice.
He also demanded President Ghani nominate educated, honest and patriot persons as ministers.
Noor Ahmed, a religious scholar, said there should be uniform development as President Ghani had promised to the nation. He said all religious leaders would extend their support to the president if the supremacy of law was implemented in the country.
Javed Tabish, a civil society activist, asked the government to provide jobs to people. He hoped the new government would create jobs for the youth who go to Iran because in search of work.
He said construction of the Bakhsh Abad dam was a long-standing demand Farah people, asking the new government to give it a priority.
