Stop discrediting polls, Samim tells Abdullah team

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Calling an audio tape played by presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s team as completely fake, Paktika Governor Mohibullah Samim said on Sunday tactics aimed at maligning the hard-won Afghans’ right to vote must be stopped.
Members of Abdullah's team the other day played an audio recording allegedly contained proof of irregularities during the June 14 runoff presidential elections in favour of Abdullah's rival candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and promised to release more such “evidence of electoral fraud” in the next few days.
One of the audio recordings purported to be conversation between former Independent Election Commission (IEC) Secretary Ziaul Haq Amarkhel and Samim.
In a statement, Samim said the audio tape was completely a phony one, which was an attempt to sabotage the electoral process.
Almost one week before the second round of election, the governor said in accordance with President Hamid Karzai’s directives, he had directed all provincial departments and officials to stay away and not to interfere in the ballot process.
He said the Afghans had taken part in the elections at the cost of their lives and attempts aimed sabotaging the ballot should be stopped.
