KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s supporters on Thursday said widespread rigging had taken in central Maidan Wardak and the Gomal district of southeastern Paktika province in favour of Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.
Abdullah’s camp member Abdul Jabbar Shalgarai told journalists in Kabul that Maidan Wardak governor Abdul Majeed Khogyani had committed fraud in favour of Ahmadzai during the June 14 runoff presidential election.
He released a taped telephonic conversation between Khogyani and an Afghan National Army (ANA) officer in Jaghatu district of Wardak.
In the audio recording, the governor told the army officer: “I spoke with the election commission. You just keep security outside polling centres and don’t interfere with things inside because election officials and observers are present there.”
In response, the officer said: “We have adopted tight security measures and won’t allow anyone to commit fraud because both runners are candidates of Afghanistan’s people.”
Abdullah’s supporters also released a video footage showing ANA officials detain a group of individuals stuffing ballot boxes in a house for Ahmadzai.
Shalgarai said they would release more such audio and video clips of fraud by members of the change and continuity in favour of Ahmadzai.
