PC runners get 24 hours to file complaints

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Tuesday started receiving objects to the preliminary results of provincial council polls.
The filing of complaints got under way hours after the results were unveiled -- four days behind schedule -- by the Independent Election Commission (IEC).
IECC spokesman Nadir Mohseni told a news conference provincial offices had been directed to begin receiving objections against initial results.
He said candidates could lodge complaints with IECC offices in provinces and Kabul until Wednesday (12 noon).
Under the commission’s internal procedures, no complaints will be accepted after expiry of the 24-hour deadline. “Complaints of runners should be supported by documentary evidence.”
He added provincial council complaints would be evaluated at public hearing. Mohseni promised they would strive to address all complaints and make its decision ahead of June 7.
