If elected, Ghani to introduce reforms

KABUL (Pajhwok): Promising high government positions to women, front-line presidential candidate Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Sunday said he would bring to justice those involved in violence against the gender.
Addressing a gathering marking International Women’s Day in Kabul, Ahmadzai said the Afghan women were fully capable of performing different tasks.
A large number of women took part in the gathering. Ahmadzai said women’s views regarding peace were better than those held by men. “Because women hate war and they can speak on their behalf without men’s help.”
The former finance minister promised all facilities of life to women, saying he would appoint females on key government posts if he won the election.
He said the role he would give to women in the government would not be a symbolic one, saying women could run the affairs at the Presidential Palace.
About women’s education and health, Ahmadzai said “I will establish an international standard woman university.”
He said women would enjoy every right they were given by Islam and the Constitution. “If a woman is subjected to violence in my government, the perpetrator has to face an exemplary punishment.”
Ahmadzai’s wife, Rula, also spoke on the occasion, saying she had been in Afghanistan over the past many years and wanted to stay with the Afghans for more years to come. “I am sorry for being influent in Dari.”
Rula Ghani, who belongs to Beirut, the Lebanese capital, was granted Afghan nationality during President Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan’s government.
She asked Afghan women to take part in the upcoming elections and elect a candidate they preferred.
