With an eye on presidency, Ghani resigns

 
KABUL (PAN): Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has stood down as Security Transition Commission chairman to participate in next year's presidential ballot, a knowledgeable official said on Sunday.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confided to Pajhwok Afghan News President Hamid Karzai had not yet taken any decision on Ghani's resignation.
All government figures, who are interested in contesting presidential, provincial or parliamentary elections, have to quit their jobs in accordance with the relevant law 75 days ahead of the election day.
Last week, Wahdat-i-Islami party head Mohammad Mohaqiq announced his resignation as a member of the Wolesi Jirga to take part in the presidential race.
