Drug smuggler killed in Baghlan encounter

 
PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Police clashed with drug smugglers, killed one of them and confiscated 200 kilograms of narcotics in northern Baghlan province on Tuesday, an official said.
The early morning shootout came after police intercepted a group of individuals carrying drugs from Deh Salah district to Khost district, the provincial police chief said.
Col. Saadiq Muradi told Pajhwok Afghan News one smuggler identified as Farjam was killed and another captured alive during the encounter that led to the seizure of 200 kilograms of opium and a car.
Officials say poppy crops grown over 300 acres of land have been eradicated during an anti-poppy campaigns this solar year.
Over the past four months, 34 people have been arrested for drug smuggling and half a tonne of narcotics and eight vehicles seized.
