Baghlan may miss annual revenue target

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): The revenue director of northern Baghlan province on Monday said they would not be able to meet the target fixed by the Ministry of Finance.
During the inaugural ceremony for a newly-constructed building for his department, Baseer Ahmad Baseer said last year the revenue of the province was 180 million afghanis, overshooting the target of 160 million afghanis.
But this year, the ministry has projected the provincial revenue at 310 million afghanis, a goal the department could not achieve, the director indicated.
“We can’t reach the target because the authorities have waived off the toll tax on roads and many people directly pay taxes to the Ministry of Finance,” he explained.
So far during the current year, more than 120 million afs had been collected and the annual revenue might reach 220 million afs, Baseer reckoned.
With taxpayers’ money the government provided facilities to the people, said a logistics company head, Mohammad Mohsin, who urged honest payment of duties.
The new building, having 20 rooms, has been constructed on two acres of land at a cost of 11 million afs and has facilities for revenue department staff and customers.
