KABUL (PAN): A day after his supporters were barred from holding a gathering in Kabul Medical University's cafeteria, presidential hopeful Mirwais Yasini said he would complain to Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission (IEC).
Addressing a news conference in Kabul on Wednesday, Yasini said his supporters wanted to hold a gathering, but University Dean Dr. Obaidullah Obaid did not allow the meeting and called in police to disperse them.
After police intervention, Yasini added, his supporters took to the streets against the dean's action. The cafeteria, following its sale to a private contractor, could be reserved for all kinds of meetings, Yasini claimed.  "I will take this issue to IEC with a copy of the contract."
In a brief telephonic chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, the Kabul Medical University dean argued the campus could not be used as a venue for political gatherings. Dr Obaid added hey had received clear instructions from IEC in this regard.
