KABUL (PAN): Dr. Ashraf Ghani, a key challenger to President Hamid Karzai in the August 20 elections, is hosting a gathering of over 1,000 women at his residence in this capital city today.
The group of women from the Malal Company was expected to announce their support for Dr. Ghani, a former finance minister, in the upcoming polls, his campaign office said on Wednesday.
In a press statement, Ghani's campaign team said: "They are a civic group of working women, consisting of teachers, tailors, administrators and more."
A former World Bank official, Dr. Ghani will address a press conference following the event, taking place eight days ahead of the much-anticipated vote.
