KABUL (PAN): A three-day training seminar on polling, vote count and announcement of results got under way here on Tuesday. Around a hundred provincial workers of the Electoral Complaints Commission are attending the event.

ECC head Grant Kippen said on the occasion workers from all provinces had been invited to attend the seminar. Participants would be trained in handling election-related complaints, he added.

Another ECC official, who wanted to stay anonymous, told Pajhwok Afghan News there had been a barrage of objections to the election process. The attendees would be educated on how to differentiate between ordinary and important complaints and register them properly.

He added: "At times baseless allegations are levelled against candidates, but ECC employees should be careful in dealing with the objections and determining their accuracy."

So far 369 complaints have been filed against presidential and provincial council candidates. Ninety-eight of them are against presidential candidates, five against their picks for vice-presidents, 111 against provincial council contenders, 126 against government officials and the rest against others.
