GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Residents are pessimistic about the completion of requisite preparations over the next five months to make this southern city the Islamic civilisation capital.
At a 2007 meeting in the Libyan city of Tripoli, culture ministers from Islamic countries selected Ghazni City as the Asian Capital of the Islamic Civilisation for 2013.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Officials in southern Ghazni province on Wednesday reopened four schools that had been closed nine years ago due to clashes between security forces and insurgents.
The schools resumed functioning in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, currently serving as the Asian Capital of Islamic Civilisation, Maqur, Khwaja Omari and Rashidan districts.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Seven militants were killed and two others wounded in an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) airstrike in southern Ghazni province on Tuesday, an official said. The raid in Deh Yak district caused no harm to civilians, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 203rd Thunder Corps, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two days back, six local policemen had been killed in an insurgent attack on their post in the restive district, located 18 kilometres east of Ghazni City, the provincial capital.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Thirteen members of a anti-Taliban militia were killed in an attack by the Taliban fighters in the militancy-plagued Andar district of southern Ghazni province on Friday, an official said. The incident took place in Gandaeer area early on Friday when the insurgents stormed their checkpoint at a time when the public uprising members were asleep, the district chief, Qasam Desiwal, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The attackers also seized their weapons and a vehicle.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances and her body delivered to the civil hospital in Ghazni city, the capital of southern Ghazni province, medics said Saturday. The dead body was brought to the civil hospital late on Friday night from the Ganj area on the city's outskirts, the hospital in-charge, Dr. Baaz Mohammad Himmat, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the woman had been shot in the head multiple times. Women's affairs director Shukria Wali said the slain woman was hit by stray bullets someone fired into the air.

GHAZNI CITY/SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Six members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) force were killed in the Deh Yak district of southern Ghazni province on Sunday, officials said. The policemen were killed while staying as guests with their friend Abdul Razzaq, who had links with insurgents, the district chief told Pajhwok Afghan News. Fazal Ahmad said the Taliban killed the six ALP personnel inside Razzaq’s house in the Tasan village and abducted two others. Razzaq also fled with the rebels after snatching the policemen’s weapons.

GHAZNI CITY/MAIMANA (PAN): Sixteen youth were killed while harvesting opium poppies in southern Helmand province, officials said on Sunday. The victims hailed from Qarabagh and Aab Band districts of southern Ghazni province, the Qarabagh district chief, Fazal Rahman Nazarwal, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the men were laid to rest in their hometowns on Saturday. While pricking poppy pods in Helmand, they came under militant attack, the official added.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Gunmen disembarked four construction workers, including two engineers, from a vehicle and shot three of them dead in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Monday. The fourth worker, all belonged to a construction firm called AFEC, was injured in the incident that happened on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Nani area of Andar district, the governor's spokesman said. They were heading to Ghazni city from the site in Qarabagh district when intercepted by unknown gunmen, Fazlur Rahman Sabawoon told Pajhwok Afghan News.
