KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Two people were killed and 38 others wounded, including women and children, as at least 10 mortars were fired into the capital of northern Kunduz province on Saturday, the day of parliamentary election.
Zonal hospital in-charge Murtazavi Yaftali told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had so far received two dead bodies and 38 injured people including women and children. He said the dead included one security man and the injured included 11 security personnel.
Yaftali said the victims sustained wounds in mortar strikes.
Noorullah, a resident of Qasani area of Kunduz City, told Pajhwok that one mortar hit the Qasani mosque, injuring the prayer leader.
Deputy provincial police chief Col Safiullah Mehzon said 10 mortars were fired from different directions into Kunduz City from morning to noon. He said casualties caused by the mortar strikes were being investigated.
Independent Election Commission head for Kunduz Rassoul Omar said the Taliban attacked a polling enter in Kunduz City, killing one election worker and injuring another.
