Election workers, police injured in rocket strike

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Two workers of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional office and three policemen were wounded in a rocket attack in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Sunday.
The overnight rocket strike occurred in the Boghawee Uzbekia area on the outskirts of the provincial capital, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdur Rauf Taj, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the IEC workers and policemen came under attack when they were returning from a voter registration centre. The injured were evacuated to a local hospital for medical treatment.
IEC head for Sar-i-Pul Haji Abdur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying a woman worker was among the wounded. She was wounded in the back and her colleague suffered multiple leg fractures.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The group's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said five policemen had suffered casualties in the assault.
