FARAH CITY (PAN): Insurgents torched four trucks shipping logistic supplies for NATO-led troops and lost four men to the ensuing clash with the convoy’s guards in northwestern Farah province, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place on the Kandahar-Herat highway in the Bala Balok district on Thursday afternoon, the district chief, Mullah Syed Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The public order police who were escorting the convoy did not suffer any casualties, he said, adding the clash left four attackers dead and four logistics carrying vehicle torched.
The governor’s spokesman, Abdul Rahman Zhwandi, said another two Taliban attackers were wounded in the incident and their one vehicle seized by the police.
But a witness, Sharfuddin, said he saw five trucks burning at the scene and two dead bodies of the public protection policemen lying on the ground.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the attack left 10 vehicles gutted and eight guards dead.
He acknowledged the death of two fighters and injuries to three others in the incident that came 10 days after 10 NATO logistics carrying vehicles were set afire in the same area.
