KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A large number of Kochi tribesmen in northern Kunduz province said on Thursday they had not yet received voter cards and could not exercise their franchise in Saturday’s runoff election.
Nasrullah Mandokhel, the director of Kuchi affairs, said around 30,000 nomadic families were living in Kunduz but only 10,000 of them had obtained voter cards.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News only one third of them had cast their votes in the April 5 polls.
Official of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said around 200,000 voter cards had been distributed in Kunduz province ahead of the April 5 ballot.
Hamidullah Baloch, a provincial IEC official, said the card distribution process had been carried out in several phases. Mobile teams had been dispatched to remote areas for awareness and distributing cards.
A Kochi tribesman, Nabi Jan, said they were busy grazing their cattle in remote mountains and had no information about the voter registration process.
