TALOQAN (Pajhwok): People from different walks of life in northern Takhar province on Wednesday lauded the role of Afghan forces in maintain tight security during Saturday’s elections.
At a meeting, attended by senior security officials, civil society organisations, women’s rights activists and journalists, participants commended Afghan forces’ sacrifice.
Governor Abdul Latif Ibrahimi expressed satisfaction with the security environment that also boosted the morale of Afghan forces. He particularly appreciated policewomen’s role during the ballot.

 
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Tuesday said 165,000 of 500,000 eligible voters could not exercise their franchise on April 5 in northern Takhar province.
Provincial IEC chief, Roohullah Mosawi denied scarcity of ballot papers at polling sites. He told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We don’t agree with claims that 12,000 ballot papers were cast in two or three hours…”

 
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): No election complaint has been registered against any presidential candidate so far in northern Takhar province, local officials said on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC) head for Takhar, Barna Salehi, said 13,296 people monitored Saturday’s polls in the province. 
Barring objections against two provincial council aspirants, the panel had received no complaint against any presidential contender, he said. Nobody was allowed to commit fraud in the process.

 
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Vice-presidential hopefuls Ahmad Zia Massoud and Abdul Wahab Irfan on Wednesday promised residents of northern Takhar province they would restore peace and introduce Shariah if they succeeded in the upcoming elections.
Massoud, Zalmai Rassoul’s candidate for VP, told hundreds of supporters at an election rally in Taloqan insecurity was a major impediment to Afghanistan’s economic progress and prosperity.
